Cyclone Amphan

Updated: Jul 26

After the devastation caused by Cyclone Amphan to our communities and centres, we have been heartened to see our management, staff and students swing into action.

Cyclone Amphan has been the most severe storm to hit West Bengal and Kolkata in decades and has left a trail of destruction behind in its path in many districts across the state. Three of our centres were damaged by the storm and the local communities homes have also been severely impacted.

In particular, the Topsia community was badly hit and the bustee area beside our centre that is home to 120 families was almost completely destroyed by the cyclone. Sujit, a teacher from Topsia, along with some of our older students arranged to have the school building repaired and the distribution of dry foods to all families whose homes were damaged in the cyclone.

Our Topsia centre's damaged roof was repaired and provided shelter to people and their belongings until their homes were able to be repaired.

We will keep working closely with our local management, staff and students to provide relief to all of our communities that have been badly impacted by Cyclon Ampham.
